Internal medicine resident, anesthesiology chief resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Lauren McManus, M.D.

Dr. Lauren McManus, recently an internal medicine resident at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of medicine.

After receiving her B.S. summa cum laude from Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, in 2012, McManus earned her M.D. at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, in 2016. She then had an internal medicine residency at the LSU Health Sciences Center, Baton Rouge, from 2016-18 and an internal medicine residency at UMMC from 2018-19.

An active member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association, McManus has given two lectures and two journal club presentations. She is the author of a scientific poster presented at UMMC’s ACP Abstract Day. Her research interests center on quality improvement.

 

Patrick Newman, M.D.

Dr. Patrick Newman, recently chief resident in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an assistant professor of anesthesiology and will be joining the anesthesiology and critical care departments.

After receiving his B.S. in biomedical engineering from Louisiana Tech University in 2010, Newman earned his M.D. in 2014 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he had an internship from 2014-15 and his residency training in anesthesiology from 2015-19. After completing residency, he did a fellowship in critical care medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio.

An active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Critical Care Medicine, Newman has given six presentations at scientific meetings locally.
